Wood Burning Stoves in Antigua

Many of the homes in Antigua were damaged by earthquakes and volcanoes. This home is unusual in that it still has a chimney from when the Guatemalan people cooked their food with wood burning stoves.

In Guatemala I signed up for a bus tour of Antigua which is a UNESCO 

World Heritage Site.

This is the view from the second floor of the city hall where I went to use the restroom.

The architecture is Spanish Baroque.

We visited a jade museum.

Very expensive jewelry in here.

Just as I held up my phone to get a photo of the volcano it burped up some gas for me.

This archway above the road goes between the convent on the left and the school on the right. This way the nuns were safe from the prying eyes of adults. The nuns could only be viewed by children. This would have driven me crazy. The convent is now a restaurant where most of the travelers had traditional Guatemalan cuisine. I had grilled onions, eggplant, potatoes, carrots, and tomatoes.

This isn't a very good picture. I took it out the bus window. The cement walls protecting homes are topped with shards of sharp glass to prevent thieves from scaling the wall.
