I read a book set mostly in the upper peninsula of Michigan called Beware The Woman. The author is Megan Abbott and she wrote a terrifying story about a pregnant young wife who goes with her husband to visit her father-in-law. The father-in-law is a retired physician. They plan to stay for a week around the 4th of July. The property has a cabin in the back and that is where the housekeeper/cook lives. The location is remote and there is no Wi-Fi and no cell phone service. As the visit progresses things get stranger and stranger. Although the title says to beware the woman, you would be smart to beware the man who claims to protect the woman. If you live thrillers, I think you would like this book.
