Journey to Freycinet National Park, Tasmania

Evidence of wildfire here.
Beaches Rock!
Someday I want to live near the ocean.
Today we drove north and east from Hobart to Freycinet National Park.  This was a beautiful park set on a peninsula on the east coast.  We stopped for lunch at a gas station along the way for lunch and at a grocery store to buy supplies for dinner.  Freycinet is an awesome park and I wish we had more time there.  We stayed in a cabin with all hardwood floors, two bedrooms, a small kitchen, a living room, and a deck overlooking the eucalyptus forest.  I walked up to the lodge in the rain that evening to get something and a wallaby hopped across the boardwalk ahead of me.  I had to run back and tell my roommates about the wallaby before heading to the lodge again.  Tasmania is full of wallabies.  I bet we saw at least 50 dead wallabies on the roads during our stay in Tasmania along with possums and other unidentifiable wildlife.  It rained all afternoon so we took umbrellas and went for a walk to the lighthouse.   At dusk we took our silent hybrid Camry on a safari to look for wildlife.  We spotted a wallaby.  Well, it wasn't hard to spot him.  He was sitting on the edge of the road with his tail extended on the asphalt.  We had to stop or risk running over his tail.  We watched him for about ten minutes as he calmly ate the leaves and grass around him. Watching the wallaby was a great ending to a great day.

Hallaway

I have only been to Maplewood State Park once before. The time of the year was autumn and we thought we could snag a campsite. Wrong. Despit...
