In The Unlikely Event

 Judy Blume is known for her children's books but she has written 4 for adults. This one is an historical fiction novel about her experiences as a child growing up in Elizabeth, New Jersey. In The Unlikely Event gives details about the 3 passenger planes that crash landed in Elizabeth in the space of 58 days. One of the main characters in the novel is Miri who is 15 when the first plane crashed. Judy was actually 14 when it happened. Miri lives with her mother and grandmother. Miri's Uncle Henry comes over for dinner nearly every night. He is a reporter for the local newspaper. Her boyfriend lives in the orphanage near the site of the third plane crash. The author describes the 1950's era by mentioning songs, hair styles, shoe styles, and cars. My only complaint is that she included so many characters and some with similar names so it was hard to remember who was who.
