Simone de Beauvoir wrote a novel that has not been published before now named Inseparable. In this story she talks about the childhood friendship between Sylvie and Andree, two girls who met at age 9 at a school in Paris. For ten years they are best friends even though the differences between them vary. Andree is religious and idealistic and passionate and reckless and rebellious. Sylvie looses her faith and is also passionate but philosophical and careful and obedient. This novel was considered to be too intimate to be published during the author's lifetime as it is based on Simone's actual friendship with a school friend named Zaza. I really don't see this story as too intimate but times have changed since she first wrote it in 1954.
