V. S. Alexander is the author of the historical fiction novel, The Magdalen Girls. This story is set in Dublin, Ireland in 1962. A girl named Teagen, 16, is urged to wear a nice dress and a sweater to the church by her mother. Teagen would rather hang out with her boyfriend but she does what she is told. Her beauty attracts the attention of the new priest. The new priest confesses his temptation to the old priest. The old priest contacts Teagen's alcoholic father who decides she needs to go to a Catholic home for fallen women. Mother Superior is especially hard on Teagen for reasons that totally surprised me. How innocent Teagen handles these turn of events is amazing and uplifting and inspirational. This was a great story to read.
