Nature Walk

I went on a nature walk this morning with a four year old and her Mom. We laughed uproariously as the mallards showed their tails as they ate breakfast. Here we are at the ditch that runs around the fresh water supply for the city of Newport, Rhode Island.

We stopped at a bridge for someone to eat a snack which was a good sized Butterfinger candy bar. Here a wooly caterpillar climbed up on my fingers and onto my down jacket. We put the caterpillar back on the bridge before we left. We saw ruddy ducks, American coots, ring-billed gulls, herring gulls, Caroline wrens, black scoters, cormorants, American robins, black capped chickadees, and sparrows. We walked across the street to the beach where we found sand, quicksand, sea weed, the remains of a horseshoe crab and a Dungeness crab and a blue crab.

This mockingbird mocked us!

Hallaway

I have only been to Maplewood State Park once before. The time of the year was autumn and we thought we could snag a campsite. Wrong. Despit...
