I found a new and wonder place to stay when I come to Duluth. The Hostel Du Nord is right across the street from the Holiday Inn where I parked when I went to the YMCA. Last time I stayed at the Super 8 and 2 of the staff there were incredibly rude to me. The staff at the Hostel are nice. I have a private room. I share a bathroom and a kitchen with others. There is also a sauna I could share. When I walked up to the place a nice man helped me by telling me where to go and who to call. A hostile man was there too dropping f bombs left and right. I am staying at the Annex for $45/night plus $5/day for parking. What a deal! I have only met one woman at the bathroom. She is Kaylee and we talked for 20 minutes as I was going in to take a shower. She works at the MacDonald's on London Road. She works 6 or 7 days a week. She earns $18.50 per hour and absolutely loves her work. She showed me her paychecks on her phone. Then she showed me a picture of the MacDonald's sign proclaiming her to be employee of the month. She gets one free meal a day there and she likes the $5 meal with nuggets, a burger, small fries, and a drink. She had to leave an abusive marriage back in Arkansas. Now her ten year old daughter lives with her father except for summers and Christmas. Her credit is ruined so she can't get an apartment. She figures she will save for 3 years to maybe buy a house. As I was cooking dinner tonight an Italian guy (at least I think he was Italian) was making espresso on a tiny coffee pot. He offered me some. I can't drink coffee after noon much less espresso at 6 p.m. so I turned him down. Nice of him to offer though. Tomorrow I head south again. In May I will return to Duluth to see my dentist and I will be sure to stay at the Hostel Du Nord.
