I checked out Jobs For Girls With Artistic Flair: A Novel written by June Gervais from the Hennepin County Library in NE Minneapolis. This is a coming-of-age book about an 18 year old woman who wants to be a tattoo artist. Living with her mother is difficult because her Mom has episodes of mania and depression. When Gina found a photo taken by her mother's boyfriend of herself, asleep on her bed, barely clothed, she got upset and moved out. Dominic, her older brother, owns a tattoo studio and he reluctantly agrees to train her for a year. This is 1985 so almost all the tattoo artists are men. Her work is sabotaged by one of the other male tattoo artists. Dominic has some struggles of his own to deal with. Gina makes a new friend named Anna. Anna teaches Gina that the only way she can succeed is to embrace her quirkiness and stand up for herself. I really liked this story about Gina and her progress with her art.
