Latsch

This morning I drove an hour south to the Eagle Center in Wabasha. Admission was ten dollars. A 45 minute seminar about eagles was four dollars. I paid 14 dollars.

I saw a half dozen staff but I think I was the only customer.

This male eagle had a tumor in it's eye. The tumor was so heavy he couldn't pick up his head off the ground. The tumor and the eye were removed. He has no sense of depth perception. His two eagle neighbors went to Minneapolis for a check up at the Raptor Center. I was there when Angel came back. Angel, a large female eagle, fell out of the nest at 4 months of age. Her wing was broken and the muscles never came back. She can fly but only 4 feet off the ground. These eagles are always on a tether for their own safety.  Angel took a bath right away to get the human germs off.

This is Latsch. He was rescued on Latsch Island near Winona. The tour boat operator noticed him sitting in the water for 3 days in a row. He called the Fish and Wildlife Services. The tour boat operator took the Fish and Wildlife on the boat with him for the rescue. Some people who visit the Eagle Center were on that boat ride where Latsch was rescued. He has a detached retina. He still has his eye but he can't see out of it. The speaker said I did a good job as an audience because Latsch felt comfortable enough to empty his bowels and eat a rat in front of me. I was the only one in the audience.

I spoke with a friend on the phone and she suggested I go to the bar where Grumpy Old Men was filmed. The bar is closed for the season. I would like to watch that movie again.

On my way back I drove through Frontenac State Park. Along the way I saw 5 bald eagles. I looked for golden eagles. I was told to look at the middle third of a bluff. I looked but did not see any. Golden eagles have dark beaks. Bald eagles have yellow beaks. Bald eagles have bare legs. Golden eagles have feathers on their legs. This park with the heart on it is in Red Wing. I went shopping at the pottery center. I bought a couple of dolls for the grand girls. Don't tell them.

I like Red Wing.
