Phelp's Mill

We visited Phelp's Mill near Amore, MN the other day. The scene was full of life. Look at all the barn swallow nests under the mill roof. The barn swallows (mill swallows?) were swarming eating all the dragonflies that were in turn eating all the gnats hovering above the Ottertail River which flows from Ottertail lake towards the Hudson Bay.

View from the bridge which is now only for pedestrians. The water flows swiftly.

Downstream anglers were catching sunfish and northern pike.

The anglers fish from both sides of the river close to the dam.

We have to go past the Corner Store on Ottertail Lake.

I have only been to Maplewood State Park once before. The time of the year was autumn and we thought we could snag a campsite. Wrong. Despit...
