The Reader

Bernhard Schlink wrote The Reader and it was translated by Carol Brown Jakeway.  Bernhard is a German law professor and judge. He wrote the book in 1995.  The book was made into a movie by the same name starring Kate Winslet.  The story is told by the character Michael Berg.  He starts out as a 15 year old who is recovering from a long illness.  He meets a street car conductor named Hanna.  Although twenty years his senior, she becomes the woman in his life that he cannot get over.   The story deals with the Holocaust.  New for me was Germans writing about their parents who were adults during the Holocaust and judging their parents on what they did or did not do.  I'm curious to read more about the Holocaust now.
