I stopped by the library last week and they had an entire cart of free books. I looked through them and found one I thought Offspring #1 might like. This was a hard cover/large print edition and it's a very nice book in good condition. The Devil's Light is a book written by Richard North Patterson who was a lawyer in Washington, D.C. He now splits his time between San Francisco and Martha's Vineyard. The plot is based on Osama Bin Laden's plan to set off a nuclear device on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. A loyal spy for the United States named Brooke wants to find this device before anything bad happens. Brooke is 35 years old now and still single. When he was in his twenties he fell in love with a beautiful woman of Lebanese background named Amit. The author used the romance between Brooke and Amit to tell the military history of Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, Israel, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Dubai and Jordan. Each person who helps Brooke tells their family legacy. Sometimes the politics and the history was hard to slog through but I thought Patterson had a tricky way of getting me to learn more.
