I have become a big fan of Kristin Harmel's historical fiction novels. The Forest of Vanishing Stars was based on true event but the characters are fictional. Set in Poland during World War Two the heroine of the story is a warrior. She helps refugees and escaped prisoners survive in the forest and the swamps. She shows them which berries and mushrooms are edible. She teaches them how to cure illness with herbs and remedies. This author is an expert in keeping the conflicts going and maintaining the tension. I loved this story and I plan to read all the books she writes.
